Abstraction of a calmly standing female body
A female model in her mature beauty. A brush drawing in my personal style derived from Japanese Sumi-e: a few strokes transferred to the painting surface with a soft Japanese brush, but not with rubbing ink on absorbent rice paper, but with black acrylic paint on white drawing board. As a European with knowledge of Far Eastern culture, tradition and art, I have developed my own style of painting.
An image, an idea, is captured with just a few strokes on the otherwise empty painting surface. In Far Eastern drawings, the empty space, i.e. the empty, unpainted surface, is an important design element. This also applies to my paintings. They are intended to radiate an unobtrusive lightness. The viewer has enough space to complete the picture in his or her mind, to imagine the real original in its beauty and harmony.
I try to convey tranquillity with my pictures. They should blend harmoniously into a room, a particular piece of furniture, without dominating or disturbing.
