Female Nude Study | Expressive abstract painting in warm earthy tones Figurative painting from my art academy years, reimagined in the Flexa colour palette of 2027
During my time at AKV St. Joost art academy from 2003 to 2007, I created, among other works, this study of a female nude. The painting was originally made with acrylic paint on kraft paper, in shades of blue. Because I no longer have the original and only still own a rather poor-quality photograph, I used AI to digitise the work in colours that match the Flexa palette of 2027, such as violet whiff, velvet almond, toasted orange, easy taupe, creamy matcha, brilliant brown, haunted earth, soft slide, caramel charm and soulful sage.
A piece of my artistic past, translated into the interior of today.
In this expressive figure study, a nude woman sits in a relaxed, slightly curled-up pose. Her head is gently bowed and her face is partly hidden in shadow. Her body is painted loosely and with bold brushstrokes, where the emphasis is not on perfect anatomical accuracy, but rather on form, light and the spontaneity of painting from a live model. The result is an intimate, tranquil portrait in which vulnerability and feminine beauty come together.
The painting style is free, figurative and expressionistic. Broad, visible brushstrokes alternate with soft transitions and dark shadow areas. The paint is not fully blended everywhere, allowing distinct colour planes to remain visible and preserving the lively, painterly character of the work. The interplay of light and dark gives the body volume and depth, while the background has been kept deliberately simple and abstract. This ensures that all attention remains focused on the human form and the natural pose of the model.
The colour palette consists of warm earthy tones such as chocolate brown, cognac, caramel, taupe, terracotta, beige and cream. Soft accents of muted green and cool grey-blue create a subtle contrast and bring calm to the composition. The different skin tones are built up from warm, shifting nuances, while the deep brown shadow areas give the work strength and character.

Will you let me know what you think of my work? I would love to get in touch with you. Also when you have one of my works in your home I am very curious about the end result in your interior.
