About the artwork

Michael Ladenthin, born in 1963, is a German artist who grew up and lives and works in the Ruhr region. Information about him and his works can be found at www.michael-ladenthin.de.

His works are characterised by an expressionist and partly realistic style based on abstract processes. He experiments with the primary colours yellow, cyan and magenta, combined with white and black, and uses random structures to create stories and scenes that can represent dreams or psychotic states. A special feature of his pictures is that parts of them remain unprocessed. These open areas offer the viewer room for their own interpretations and allow them to discover individual pictorial elements in the abstract structures and add personal scenes.

An outstanding work by Ladenthin is the painting "Glaube-2024". The original measures 60 x 60 cm and is painted in mixed media (oil on acrylic). It shows the iris of an eye in an expressive painting style. The use of generous areas of colour and open spaces invites the viewer to find their own meanings and stories. The dynamic composition and the contrasting colours lend the painting a lively and mysterious atmosphere that encourages reflection.

Ladenthin's artworks are a play between chance and intention, with the unfinished areas actively involving the viewer in the creative process. Further information and an extensive gallery of his work can be found on his website: www.michael-ladenthin.de.
