Experiencing a total lunar eclipse is already special, but actually capturing the blood moon adds an extra dimension. I shot this picture during one such rare moment. At the beginning of the eclipse, it seemed that thick clouds would hide the whole experience. Patience, however, was the key. As I stood waiting, the skies slowly cleared and the moon appeared in all its glory. That unexpected play between nature and timing made this image unforgettable for me.
The moon, enveloped in a warm red glow, hangs almost floating in the night sky. That special colour is created by the sunlight being filtered through the earth's atmosphere during the eclipse. The result is an image that feels at once natural and otherworldly. The deep shadows and subtle contrast of the lunar surface are sharply visible, almost making you feel as if you are looking at another planet with the naked eye.
Those who take this image into their homes are choosing a photograph that combines tranquillity, mystery and power. It is a reminder of the beauty of our cosmos.
