A summer morning near Maria Gern, when the day awakens and the world is still quiet, reveals one of the most impressive views in the entire Berchtesgadener Land region: the view of the Watzmann in the glowing red light of the rising sun. Even before the actual sunrise, the sky begins to take on warm colours - soft orange tones mingle with purple and pink until finally a deep, glowing red captures the horizon.

An almost magical view of the Watzmann massif opens up from a small hill or meadow near the Maria Gern pilgrimage church. It rises majestically into the dawning day, surrounded by the calm, dark silhouettes of the surrounding mountains. The summit glows at first, then the sun's rays slowly run down the rocks like liquid gold. It is a spectacle of light, colour and form that unfolds anew every day - and yet always takes your breath away.

The fresh morning air smells of grass and dew, and apart from the soft rustling of the leaves, hardly a sound can be heard.
