About "Enchanting medieval castle in France"

About the artwork

This photographic image shows an abandoned and forgotten medieval castle in a small village in the south-west of France.
The photo was taken during my summer holiday on a photo tour in August 2017 with the Nikon camera.

The Département du Lot [lɔt] is the French département with the ordinal number 46. It is located in the south of the country in the Occitanie region and was named after the river Lot, a tributary of the Garonne.
The department of Lot borders on the departments of Corrèze, Cantal, Aveyron, Tarn-et-Garonne, Lot-et-Garonne and Dordogne. The Lot crosses the département from east to west with numerous meanders, the narrowest of which is around 200 metres wide and can be found in the village of Luzech, which offers impressive views from numerous vantage points.
In the north of the département, the Dordogne also cuts through the region. Between the two major rivers in the eastern part of the département are the Causses, limestone plateaus that are strongly characterised by karst processes.
Tourism is an important economic sector.

The region's most valuable agricultural product is the truffle, which finds ideal conditions in the oak forests of the Causse.
Viticulture in the lower Lot valley is also playing an important role again.
Centuries ago, the "black wine" of Cahors was already famous among nobles throughout Europe, including the Russian tsar - not least because of its dark red to black colour, which made it the darkest red wine in the world.
