Elegant nature – A Tragopogon’s fluffy head against a smoky background

by Marjolijn van den Berg

"Chique natuur - De pluizenbol van een Tragopogon met rokerige achtergrond" is a macro photograph of a beautiful fluffy ball in the light. This fluffy ball, from a Tragopogon (this plant is also known as ‘Morgenster’ in the Netherlands), has stunning spider’s web-like fluff in lovely natural shades of brown. If you zoom in on the photograph, you can see just how rich in detail it is. When taking this macro photograph, I opted for a relatively shallow depth of field to achieve a tranquil atmosphere in the image and create a sense of depth. A soft, light haze of smoke hangs against the dark background; I created this to produce a blended, softer backdrop. This gives a natural effect and makes the black background much less harsh and prominent.
Thanks to the simplicity and tranquillity of this photograph, it would make an excellent wall decoration in, for example, a rustic, minimalist or Scandinavian interior. This piece would look stunning as wall art in the bedroom on an ArtFrame above the bed, as wallpaper in the hall to make a beautiful first impression, or simply above the sofa in the living room – perhaps mounted on aluminium! It would also look lovely on the wall in a meeting room (business setting).
