About "Echo of transience in black and white"

by Hans Kwaspen

About the artwork

I look for beauty in the raw and ephemeral. This abstract black-and-white photographic work is a study of texture and history-a dialogue between time and matter. Together, the weathered wall and the worn pipe form a vivid palette of contrasts: the flaking white against the darkness of the metal, the rough surfaces next to the subtle traces of human presence. Here the city speaks, layer by layer, through its own erosion.

My inspiration comes from the aesthetics of urban decay and the spontaneous art created in forgotten places. Just as Aaron Siskind and Antoni Tàpies explored the power of texture and decay, here I capture the essence of time-without embellishment, without stylised perfection, but in its pure, unfiltered form. This work exudes an atmosphere of stillness and introspection, where every crack and stain seems to whisper a story.

What makes this work special is the way it invites interpretation. It is not a fixed composition, but a landscape of impermanence that constantly reveals new details. As an artwork on the wall, it brings a raw, honest energy to the space-a subtle statement about time, change and the beauty that lies hidden in the everyday. A work that lives, evolves and continues to intrigue.
