Earth Wings I

by Tiara Kroes

An expressive abstract painting in which deep shades of green, warm earth tones and organic forms come together. Dark green, moss green and almost black brushstrokes form a striking contrast with soft sandy colours, ochre and warm rust-brown accents. Between the various layers of paint, whimsical shapes emerge that are reminiscent of wings, leaves or traces left behind by nature.

The work is built up from an interplay of powerful brushstrokes, fine lines and distinctive textures. In some places, the light forms seem to detach themselves from the dark background, whilst in others they blend seamlessly with their surroundings. The different layers and the interplay between light and dark create a composition in which new details are constantly revealed.

*Earth Wings I* has a primal, unpolished quality. The natural colours and rough textures evoke associations with weathered wood, earth and the unpredictable forms of nature. At the same time, the lighter, almost wing-like forms lend the painting a sense of lightness. As if movement and stillness were meeting.

The combination of deep green tones and warm earth colours gives this work a calm, characterful appearance. It looks stunning in an interior featuring natural materials such as wood, linen and stone. It also creates a striking contrast against a light-coloured wall. This painting is part of the *Earth Wings* series, comprising three related works, each with its own distinct character.
