Mill name: Groote polder mill.
About De Groote Polder
The mill pumped the Grootepolder (measuring 460 ha) first with a scoop wheel and later with an auger, and used to be self-swinging.
In 1915, a locomotive with separate auger came to supplement the windmill as an auxiliary power. Later, a Brons crude oil engine of 36 hp replaced the locomobiel.
In the years 1974-1975, the mill was restored by the Bremer company as part of the Slochteren land consolidation plan. By installing a longer screw jack and screw box, the mill was made suitable to serve as a reserve pumping station.
Since 1969, the mill has been owned by the Slochter Molenstichting.
8-10-2015.The mill of the Groote Polder in Slochteren. This one has looked a bit sad this summer: the old flywheel had already been removed in anticipation of the new one. But the Blom company has not been idle and made some nice new blades for us. These will be fired - barring sufficiently good weather - on
Tuesday 13 October 2015.
On 9 September 2016, the fully restored mill was put back into operation.
