Duncansby Head ( Scottish Gaelic : Ceann Dhunngain or Dùn Gasbaith ) is the most north-eastern part of both the Scottish and British mainland, just north-east of John o' Groats . It lies approximately 20 km (12 miles) east-southeast of Dunnet Head , the northernmost point of both the Scottish and British mainland. Duncansby Head is located in Caithness , Highland , in the north-east of Scotland. The headland juts out into the North Sea , with the Pentland Firth to the north and west and the Moray Firth to the south. The point is marked by Duncansby Head Lighthouse , built by David Alan Stevenson in 1924. A small public road leads from John o' Groats to Duncansby Head, making Duncansby Head the furthest point by road from Land's End .The Duncansby Head Site of Special Scientific Interest covers the 6.5 kilometre stretch of coastline south of Skirza Head. It includes the Duncansby Stacks.
