In Scotland, on the North Sea coast stands the ruins of Dunnottar Castle. Perched on a high cliff, it was in earlier years a landmark building overlooking the sea.
Such a site was of strategic importance to and owned by the Earls Marischal family, one of Scotland's most influential families.
Even now that it is a ruin, it makes a stately impression. Surrounded by water and surrounded by a dramatic sky, you can still feel the menace.
