Along the Dutch coast, a unique dune landscape unfolds that is both rugged and tranquil. In the Amsterdam Water Supply Dunes, nature forms a constant interplay between sand, wind and light. The rolling dunes seem to breathe with the seasons: in spring a haze of fresh green vegetation covers the slopes, while in summer the warm sand glistens under a clear blue sky. Here and there, among the sand ridges, lone trees, often whimsically shaped by the sea breeze, stand as silent sentinels over the landscape.
This area is not only a haven for numerous plant and animal species - from roe deer to wheatears - but also a place where people can experience the power and tranquillity of nature. The alternation of open sandy plains, dune valleys and small woods makes it a wonderful mosaic of shapes and colours. Especially the play of light and shadow, which glides over the dunes as the sun sinks, lends the landscape an almost picturesque atmosphere. The Amsterdam Water Supply Dunes remind us how close to the city a world of silence, movement and natural beauty can still be found - a living interplay of water, wind and time.
