Doega (Russian: Дуга; "arc") was the name for the OTH radar system of the Soviet Union. At the time of the Cold War, this system was designed to track the launch of intercontinental missiles (ICBMs) with an atomic charge and transfer this information to the Soviet leadership within two to three minutes, so that timely action could be taken and a counter-reaction could be taken.
The full name was Zagorizontnaja radiolokatsionnaja stantsia Doega (Загоризонтная радиолокационная станция Дуга; "over-the-horizon Doega" radar station).
Since the nuclear disaster in Chernobyl in 1986, Duga has been in the so-called exclusion zone.
