Walking from Oosterend, it's a brisk walk, seven kilometres, but well worth it. We went out behind the row of dunes, up Boschplaat and back across the beach.
Nowadays, this little wooden house on high stilts in the endless sandy plain is ideal for eating a sheltered sandwich. In the old days, before shipping had good depth gauges and equipment, this cottage was their salvation for numerous shipwrecked people. Those who managed to reach this shelter through the swirling surf would hoist the shroud, a kind of openwork ball, as a cry for help. My name is written at the bottom right of the entrance.
