Drents Heideschaap on nature reserve the Palms in Meppen (Drenthe). The Drents Heideschaap is the oldest breed of sheep in Western Europe. Migrants probably brought the breed to the Netherlands from France, where it has been present since 4000 BC, especially in Drenthe.
The Palms in Meppen is a small moorland area with one of the most beautiful juniper thickets in Drenthe. 'Palmbossies' they are called here, hence the name De Palms.
