The city center of Rotterdam was almost completely destroyed by the bombing of 14 May 1940. As a result, no building in this image is over 75 years old.
We see a colorful collection of architectural styles from various postwar eras. In the foreground, the area around Witte de Withstraat and Schiedamsedijk has mainly buildings from the fifties and sixties. Further in the background, the building with the N and other high-rise around Weena were mostly built in the eighties and nineties. On the left there is the red-white Calypso building and in the middle we see the U-shaped Karel Doorman, two recent additions to the city center.
On the horizon is, barely visible the skyline of The Hague and in front of it the open polder landscape of Midden Delfland.
