Near Emmen, Drenthe lies the dolmen D40 in the Valtherbos.
Hunebedden are the oldest archaeological foundations in the Netherlands which are only found in the province of Drenthe. Drenthe is therefore also called the hunebedden province.
During the Ice Age, these enormous boulders roamed to the Netherlands and were then stacked on top of each other by Stone Age people using ingenious tricks.
Drenthe has now constructed a genuine Hunebedhighway, so that visitors can visit all the dolmens.
This hunebed was photographed during sunset with rain lurking what gives the beautiful color effects. A picture in the house. For the real Drentenaar or as a tourist gift on the wall.
