The dodo was a stocky bird with small wings unsuitable for flight. The animal was about three feet high and was notable for its long, curved beak. The dodo lived in the forests on the island of Mauritius and probably died out between 1680 and 1690. The bird symbolizes the disappearance of animal species as a result of the damage to nature by human actions. This makes it one of the most famous birds in the world.
