Bad Doberan Minster is one of the most important buildings of the Brick Gothic period. It is a unique symbiosis of Gothic cathedral construction modelled on French cathedrals, stylistic elements from other Hanseatic churches and influences from the building rules of the Cistercians. The Lübeck St Mary's Church, St Nicholas' Church in Stralsund and St Mary's Church in Rostock served as models. The former monastery church is a cruciform, three-aisled basilica without a crossing.
