About "Disused tram depot in East Berlin - monochrome"

About the artwork

This photo was taken on 28 February 2015 in the late afternoon hours in the well-known and popular Berlin district of PANKOW and shows an old tram depot that has been closed down for a few years with an enchanting carriage shed in black and white. This photo was taken with the Nikon D90.
The graphic, abstract conversion and the deliberately dark image tone into the classic black and white give the image motif an elegant, timeless and dramatic atmosphere.

As Station III of the Great Berlin Tramway, the depot on the corner of Kaiser-Wilhelm-Straße Dietzgenstraße and Schillerstraße was opened for electric operation on 26 May 1901. It offered space for 190 railcars and sidecars. In addition to the vehicle hall with workshop and tracks 1-19, the ensemble of buildings also included an administration building with flats for the manager of the depot and the head locksmith.
A horse-drawn railway line had already existed since 1892 from Berlin Town Hall to today's Ossietzkyplatz.
With the construction of the new depot, the line network was extended at the same time.
The depot, built in 1901, has lain derelict for several years because the filigree but listed gateways are too narrow for the modern trams now used by BVG.
