"The Italian Street"
This is a digitally produced collage constructed from antique illustrations.
In the background the Leidseplein in Amsterdam, the interior of the theatre, stage set 'the Italian street', with a scene from 'Wedergevonden Zoon' by Voltaire. It is an engraving from 1774-1775, made by Dutch draughtsman, illustrator and engraver Reinier Vinkeles (1741 - 1816).
By converting the original colour of the illustration to (Delft) blue and adding the tulips with a slight 3D effect, a unique but still very Dutch new scene has been created.
Antique in a modern look, I love it.
