The Werk aan de Groeneweg, a fortification built during the interbellum between the two world wars, in order to reinforce the outdated Nieuwe Hollandse Waterlinie at this spot with bunkers and trenches. Though constructed for war, it is now a beautiful and peaceful location, especially on a beautiful spring morning like this one. With morning mist, blossom on the old fruit trees, flowering rapeseed and whitethroat and the un-Dutch hilly terrain caused by the old trenches and earthen ramparts, this was again (I had been there last year too) a magnificent morning to walk around here. The photo was taken just before sunrise, with the orange glow of the rising sun warmly illuminating the mist.
