About the artwork

Realistic painting in acrylic of the Datsun 240Z from around 1970, painted by the artist Paul Meijering - The original painting is 90 x 120 cm and available for sale.

Datsun is a car brand of the Japanese car manufacturer Nissan Motor.
In 1931 Dat Motorcar Co. named its new small model "Datson", a name intended to indicate that the new car was smaller than the car model already produced by DAT. When Nissan took over DAT in 1934, the name "Datson" was changed to "Datsun" because "son" also means "loss" (損 son) in Japanese.

The Datsun name became internationally known through the Z series of sports cars and the compact Cherry. From 1958 to 1986, only Nissan cars for export markets were given the Datsun designation. By March 1986, Nissan had phased out the Datsun brand name but reintroduced it in June 2013 as a brand for low-cost cars produced for emerging markets.

On March 20, 2012, it was announced that Nissan would revive the Datsun brand as a low-cost car brand for use in Indonesia, South Africa, India and Russia and on July 15, 2013, nearly three decades after it had been phased out, the name had been formally resurrected. According to Nissan, the brand's reliable reputation would help it gain market share in emerging markets.
