Colour photograph of the Dalempoort in Gorinchem, taken during sunset with a beautiful sky in the background.
Thanks in part to the beautiful sky, the photo shows many pastel shades. The photo shows the Dalempoort from the city side with a nice view through the gate. The Dalempoort is the only one of the four remaining city gates in the rampart of the fortified city of Gorinchem. The other three gates were the Kanselpoort, the Arkelpoort and the Waterpoort, which were unfortunately demolished to make room for traffic. The Dalempoort can still be closed at high tide by installing a coupure. This mechanism in the gate is still part of the Nieuwe Hollandse Waterlinie. At the top of the tower, there is still a clock with a clapper that can sound the alarm in case of high water.
