When I look at this work, the first thing I notice is the movement: a branch, a root, perhaps a river, branching out diagonally upwards across the picture. On the left, carmine red glows alongside gold, whilst on the right cool turquoise-green patches unfold like leaves that have just emerged. A light, almost white band cuts right through the centre, as if the sun were breaking through and drawing all the branches towards it. If you look closely, you’ll discover a small cluster of dried, bluish lavender at the bottom, pressed flat against the surface — a detail I deliberately left in, as a subtle reference to the Mediterranean landscape from which this work seems to originate. It began with the idea of fractals: how a single branch repeats itself in ever-smaller offshoots, until you can no longer tell where the main line ends and the detail begins. Interior designers are advising that we bring these kinds of natural, organic patterns back into our homes, particularly now, and that feeling is captured perfectly in this piece: warm, earthy and a touch wild. The atmosphere is lively and tactile, with a warmth you feel the moment you look at it. For me, it evokes joy, energy, and a sense of wonder at how something so simple — a branch, a line that splits — can give so much direction to a block of colour. It is a digital artwork, constructed to resemble thick, scraped layers of textured paint, with light seeming to fall over every edge as if the paint were still wet. In a living room or dining room, this piece offers something to lose yourself in time and time again: one day you see the branch, the next you suddenly spot that lavender at the bottom. It’s perfect for anyone who loves colour with character, a little corner you never quite tire of looking at. Or take a look at "Roze en Turkoois Abstract Schilderij: Vonken die Opstijgen in de Wind".
