As a traveller, I am always fascinated by special details, especially those of old doors. My passion for old wooden doors is unprecedented - they have lived, know secrets, sadness and love. It always fascinates me what stories lie behind their weathered wood. I took this photo in Rethymnon, Crete, where I was surrounded by the most beautiful old doors I have ever seen. This particular door caught my attention because of the particular wood structure that is clearly visible in the photo. The wood tells a story of many years, of seasons and weather conditions that have shaped the wood into what it is today. The door almost seems to come to life and takes you back in time, to a distant past where the door has written its own story. The look and feel of this photo is raw and authentic, further emphasising the old door. The black-and-white conversion and coarse grain create a nostalgic character that perfectly matches the timeless beauty of the old door.
