The crested mushroom is better known as the asparagus mushroom, but the names porcelain mushroom or ink mushroom are also quite common. The mushroom probably owes these nicknames to its striking appearance. The cap of the Schopftintling, which is usually egg-shaped in younger specimens and gradually becomes bell-shaped with age, is five to ten centimetres high and three to six centimetres wide.
The crested tintling is a subspecies of the tintling genus (Coprinus). Coprinus comatus is also native to Europe, where it is valued as an excellent edible mushroom, especially when young. However, Coprinus comatus is not only valued as an edible mushroom, but also as a vital mushroom, especially in Asia.
