About "Cord 810 Painting"

by Paul Meijering

About the artwork

Realistic painting in acrylic of the Cord 810 from around 1936, painted by the artist Paul Meijering - The original painting is 90 x 120 cm and available for sale.

Cord was an American automobile brand from 1929 to 1932 and from 1936 to 1937, made by the Auburn Automobile Company.

The Cord Company was founded in the early 1920s by Errett Cord and used as the name for the company where he sold used cars. The trade went very well and in the mid twenties Errett Cord bought most of the shares of the loss-making Auburn Automobile Company. After making some changes here and saving Auburn from bankruptcy, he wanted to bring a new car to market that would be cheaper than a Duesenberg (which he also owned), but a class higher than the Auburn brand. The result was the Cord Automobile.

At the end of 1936 Cord introduced a new car, the Cord 810. The 810 was an immediate success with the public, but because they were still in the Depression, the sales figures were disappointing. In 1937 some changes were made to the car. It was sold as the Cord 812. Sales were still poor and on 7 August 1937 production was completely stopped.
