The world was shrouded in merciless white as I contemplated this scene. An endless, snow-covered field cut by a single road. It almost seemed as if the land had been divided in half by this road, one half seemed to be uninhabited and quiet, on the other side was a busy industrial area. At the end of the field, two trucks could be seen waiting for their new cargo, while in the background a huge industrial building towered into the sky. The large smokestack on the right side of the industrial complex was a constant reminder that human industry was working inexorably. The image was shot in black and white, which gave it an almost cinematic quality. Every detail was enhanced by the grainy film, which made the image even more dramatic. It was a scene full of contrasts, between silence and hustle and bustle, between the beauty of winter and the harshness of industry. It was a reminder that the natural and human worlds are often in conflict and that finding a balance between them can be a challenge. At that moment, I couldn't help but think about how we shape our world and how we can minimise the impact of our actions on nature. A simple picture had made me think about the big questions of life.
