Concert in a Garden, Alice Bailly (1920)
A painting inspired by Bailly's visits to Villa Flora, where the Hahnlosers — who shared her love of music — organised open-air performances. Sketched in Winterthur and completed in Paris after the artist resettled there in 1920, the scene gathers a young man, two teenagers, a cat and a goat around a piano quartet. One violinist was modelled on collector Richard Bühler's sister-in-law, while the pianist Maria de Senger was borrowed from an earlier work, La Sonate à Dukas.
