About ‘Colourful flowers on a brown background’ by Lina van Oers

This floral artwork is anything but understated. Large flowers in rust-brown, purple, pink and off-white fill almost the entire composition. Amongst them grow small buds, delicate stems and playful dots. The dark brown background ensures that the flowers stand out particularly strongly.

What makes the work special is the combination of graphic shapes and numerous small details. Some flowers have long, striped petals, whilst others are made up of dots or thin lines. As a result, there’s always something new to discover, even when viewed up close.

The warm colours give the whole piece a distinct retro feel. Rust, dusky pink, aubergine and sandy tones are reminiscent of 1970s interiors, yet the illustrative style makes it feel very contemporary at the same time. This means the artwork fits well with the current trend for botanical prints featuring dark, warm colours.

This image can add a great deal of atmosphere to an interior. Combine it, for example, with terracotta, dark wood, brass or dusky pink accessories. Against a light-coloured wall, the painting creates a striking contrast, whilst against a dark wall it takes on a luxurious, almost wallpaper-like appearance.
