For this work, I first created a lot of paper material by putting plants, flowers and leaves in paint and making prints of them on paper. I also used old books whose pages I worked on with paint. Then I made a collage on canvas with all the elements created and added more structures and shapes with paint. Finally, I painted the birds.
The pages from books can still be seen here and there.
You could call this work a collage or a "mixed media" work, a bit realistic but still "abstract art".
The whole thing has an aura reminiscent of spring, especially through the use of the colours pink and yellow. The work also evokes for me the atmosphere of what photographers call the "golden hour", when just before sunset, daylight casts a golden glow over everything.
As the collage is composed in a rather random way from the natural elements, I try to depict the wild and unpredictable vegetation. The black birds bring depth to the work, and the light spots near the black birds suggest water.
It is a cheerful and fresh work, for people with a passion for nature, flora and fauna.
