About ‘Collage painting in earth tones’ by Susan Hol

In the jungle, dark earth tones of green, brownish red and purple reign supreme.

For this collage/painting, I used dried rose petals (which turn reddish brown), daisies and a kind of fluffy flower. I also used all kinds of dried leaves and a few small oblong pods. The small round grains you see in four spots in the image are seeds from ... I don't remember ? (Those who know me by now know that I like nature a lot, but am a real oaf when it comes to plant names and such). All these materials come from my own garden (which sometimes looks like a jungle)!

The non-natural materials are a cute little duck (bottom right), shiny pebbles (in the middle you can see a red one shining, for example), a pearl bead, clippings of natural materials from (art) magazines, gold threads and bits of fabric. The green and purple colours are my own blends with acrylic paint, the various shades of brown are unprocessed dried rose petals and other dried leaves. All parts are glued with glue lacquer.

Because of my processing with acrylic paint, the emphasis is not so much on each individual part, but rather on shape, colour and relief. This gives it the desired effect of a dense jungle, while none of the parts in this collage come from it.

This image is of a unique 20 x 30 cm work, mixed media, on cardboard, framed in a wooden frame. It costs 95 euros (ex VAT 9%), including shipping in the Netherlands. Available from me.
