A pagoda is a building that can be seen in many Buddhist temples in Asia. It has the shape of a tower that consists of several floors that are getting smaller and smaller. Each floor has its own roof. Besides Buddhist temples one can also find pagodas at Chinese temples and Dao temples.
Pagodas are characteristic of architecture in China, Thailand and Japan, among others. They were developed from the Indian stupa. The pagoda is free of other buildings, so the believing Buddhist can walk around it, as a ritual, to show respect to the relics that are kept inside.
