The Haringvliet is a former estuary of the North Sea, in South Holland between Voorne-Putten and Hoeksche Waard in the north, and Goeree-Overflakkee in the south. In 1970, as part of the Delta Works, the Haringvliet was closed off from the sea by the Haringvliet Dam and the Goereese Lock was built at the dam for shipping. From the Hoeksche Waard to the Hellegatsplein runs the Haringvliet Bridge. In the Haringvliet lies the island of Tiengemeten. The Spui flows into it between the Hoeksche Waard and Voorne-Putten.
