Beautiful cloud formation above the Dutch dunes. The photo was taken at the beach Kijkduin, a part of The Hague. The dunes in the background and above beautiful white clouds. In the foreground, a dark cloud that gives it a menacing appearance.

It is a pure Dutch air. The picture was taken from the beach at Kijkduin at Strand Battle 2A, near the famous sand engine.

What are clouds?
In the air there is a large amount of moisture / water particles. If the air is colder than the water particles change / water vapor in small droplets. These droplets form than clouds.

The water droplets reflect sunlight. This gives clouds their white color.

Clouds are subdivided in the first instance, in two species. These are cumulus clouds and layered clouds. Besides these two types, there are many different types of clouds with all its own name. An overview with brief description.

Anvil:
This cloud is also referred to incus and has, as the name suggests, the shape of an anvil. This cloud is composed of ice. These clouds often cause heavy showers and chances of thunderstorms present.

Cirrus:
These clouds typically hovering at 6 to 12 km altitude and consist of ice. They often look like cirrus clouds or fog. These clouds let the sunlight yet.

Cumulus:
This is the previously mentioned stack of cloud. These clouds can occur in all shapes and sizes.
