About "Christopher Wilhelm Eckersberg, A Russian fleet at anchor in Elsinores, 1826"

by Atelier Liesjes

About the artwork

In connection with an excursion to Elsinore on 10 September 1826, Eckersberg wrote in his diary: "At Reden Sammested there was a Russian squadron of three line ships and six frigates. The drawing is separate." (Diaries, 2009, p. 214).

This navy shows a number of naval vessels from Russia on open water on the Baltic Sea.

Christoffer Wilhelm Eckersberg (Blåkrog, Jutland, Denmark 2 January 1783 - Copenhagen, 22 July 1853), usually referred to as C.W. Eckersberg, was a Danish painter. He was one of the founders of the Golden Age of Danish painting. In his painting, he focused on portraits, (partly historical) genre paintings and shipping paintings. In 1803, he was accepted at the Royal Danish Academy of Art.
