Chambord Castle is a castle near Chambord in the department of Loir-et-Cher in the Loire Valley in Centre-Val de Loire. It is a sixteenth-century hunting castle, which has never been used to live in for a long time.
The castle is the largest and probably the most famous castle on the Loire. It is located about fifteen kilometres east of Blois, by the River Cosson in the Sologne, on the edge of the Forêt de Boulogne in the wooded nature reserve Réserve Nationale de Chasse de Chambord. The castle has 440 rooms, 365 towers and 1036 windows. The domain is 5500 hectares in size and is completely surrounded by a 32 kilometer long wall.
The castle of Chambord is on the UNESCO World Heritage List as part of the registration process.
