The Château d'If is a fortress and former prison on the island of If; the smallest island of the Frioul archipelago located in the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of Marseille.
The fort is 28 meters high, and has three floors. The island around the fortress is built with defences.

Max Beckmann (Leipzig, Saxony, Germany, 12 February 1884 - New York, United States 27 December 1950) was a German expressionist painter. In 1900 he began his painting training in Weimar. Four years later he settled in Berlin. He moved from Berlin to Frankfurt, where he became a special teacher at the Municipal Academy.
Beckmann is situated between the expressionism of Die Brücke and the anecdotism of the new professionalism or "Neue Sachlichkeit".
