Medieval Donjon Tower of the castle in the French city of loches, france, Loire valley. The impressive donjon of Loches reaches a height of 36 meters. The donjon, built around the year 1000 by Foulques Nerra, is a perfect example of medieval military architecture. Louis XI turns the donjon into a royal prison, and he remains in this form until the beginning of the 20th century. After you have passed the entrance pavilion, you enter the medieval prison life with the interrogation room (the place where torture obtained confessions from suspects), the graffiti room, the dungeons and cellars. Take a look at the top of the tower and admire the spectacular panorama.
