The tug has just tied up on the back of the cargo ship. People on the Noordpier near Wijk aan Zee watch the spectacle.
The south pier of IJmuiden disappears in the rising sea mist and setting sun. The wind is pulling on the empty ship, which is quite a job to maneuver. With the tug behind her and the pilot at the helm, the ship is in safe hands.
I wanted to make a panoramic image of the harbor with a cargo ship. And I can regularly be found at the locks. With this somewhat rough weather and the late sun it seemed a nice image of the ports at IJmuiden.
Raw and the port as it is, the people who work there. The images I see there I like to photograph because it is art in itself. The harbor is a different world. The landscape of the harbor is always in motion. The ships, the people and the landscape continue to fascinate me.
