Because there was a shortage of officers, a cadet school was opened at the Wilhelminalaan in Alkmaar in 1893 to improve the flow from the hogereburgerschool (hbs) to the KMA. The education in this two-year course was very similar to the fourth and fifth grade of the hbs, with extra attention paid to sports and military matters. Just like at the KMA there was a distinction between training for here in the country and for the Dutch East Indies. For students of the latter category the stay was free. In 1924 this cadet school was discontinued.
The former school building is part of the Northwest Hospital Group since 2015.
