This day peacock is snacking on the nectar of the butterfly tree flower. It is a reddish-brown butterfly with a large prominent eye patch on the top of all four wings. It flies from March to October. In spring, the male defends its territory and flies up and down within it regularly. The butterfly sleeps with its wings closed so that only its underside (black) can be seen. When danger threatens, it flaps its wings to hopefully scare away the threat.
