The orange tip is a true spring butterfly that you will encounter as a butterfly between late March and early May (very appropriately around King's Day). The rest of the year the species is present as caterpillar and most as pupa, but then they are hard to find. The males are very distinctive and unmistakable. The orange spots on the wing tips make them impossible to confuse with other species. The females look, by the lack of the orange wingtips, strikingly similar to the cabbage whites.
