Morpho peleides is a butterfly in the subfamily Satyrinae. The underside of the wings is brown with eye spots.
The top of the wings of the female is brown, while this is blue in the male.
This blue butterfly has a wingspan between 95 and 120 millimetres.
The wing edges are black with white spots. Adult butterflies feed mainly on juices from rotting fruit and damaged trees. This species is found in the rain forests of South and Central America, especially in Mexico, Colombia and Venezuela along forest edges and riverbanks.
