Zebras could be thought of as somewhat boring animals on safari. They are well-behaved, often skittish and you come across them on every 'street corner'. But I still like them so much! They are always sociable with each other, make a very funny sound and their distinctive stripe pattern remains fascinating. That stripe pattern also makes them very photogenic, I think. Unlike many wild animals - which have camouflage colours and so blend in with the colours of the landscape - the zebra always jumps off the canvas. As if to compensate for their less exciting image.
I can keep looking at this picture. It keeps telling me a different story. Could we be looking at a budding love? Have these two finally found each other and 'the other' is looking on jealously? Or perhaps it is a forbidden love and is disapprovingly watching from the sidelines? Perhaps it is anything but love and we are watching a staredown of sorts, while both parties figure out how to settle the feud.
I think I'll opt for romance anyway and stick to budding love. Maybe one where the parent is still just watching but carefully distancing themselves. What symbolism.
