The Széchenyi Chain Bridge (Széchenyi-Lánchíd) is the oldest bridge over the Danube River in the Hungarian capital of Budapest and was built between 1839 and 1849 to a design by British William Tierney Clark.
The bridge is named after Count István Széchenyi, the man who initiated its construction. Széchenyi's nickname is the "Greatest Hungarian" because, when Hungary was still under the Austrian Empire, he took many initiatives to improve Hungary's prosperity.
