About the artwork

This impressive picture shows an abandoned window sill that has been completely reclaimed by time and nature. Broken crockery lies scattered on the surface, covered in moss and damp mould. The once shiny pieces of pottery are now broken and decaying as the moss begins to spread over the remains of human civilisation. The windows are dirty and steamed up, but still let in a faint light that illuminates the weathered scene.

The combination of nature and decay creates a haunting atmosphere of transience. The moss that spreads over the remains of the crockery and earth stands in stark contrast to the broken and rotten objects that were once part of everyday life. It almost seems as if time stood still here years ago, while nature slowly finds its way through the ruins and takes control.

The room behind the window seems dark and deserted, but the window sill itself tells a story of decay and neglect. The mixture of broken crockery, eroding material and living moss provides a powerful visual symbol of the inexorability of nature. It is a reminder that everything that was once human will eventually be returned to the earth.
