I made this photograph at blue hour beneath the Bridge of Sighs, where stone corridors frame a narrow run of water. The light was even and the channel held a soft sheen, so the arch could read as pure line. I was drawn to the contrast between the quiet passage and the ornate bridge suspended above it.
I worked with a tripod and a slow exposure to smooth the surface and keep the masonry crisp. Notice the slight curve of the canal, the repeating windows that set a steady rhythm, and a pale trail of color deep in the corridor. Tones are natural so the print fits contemporary spaces.
The mood I wanted is calm and attentive. For me this image is about transition and pause, a place where movement turns to thought as the city settles into evening.
